The Alchemist

I have been filled with overwhelming happiness today. I have so much to write about this little 175 page book that I finished today. On the back of the book it says "this book has changed many peoples lives." It will change your life. I promise.
I believe that there are omens in this world and that it was an omen that my best friend Becca told me to read this book at exactly this TIME in my life. There couldn't have been any other better time to read this perfect novel, right before I'm leaving to move and live on my own in a far away land.

If you're reading this post at this very moment I'm telling you to READ THE ALCHEMIST RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please :)

I'm planning on keeping this book with me and reading over it for the rest of my life. I just want to write out some things that really stuck to me while reading this book..
The boy Santiago is on a journey in search for his PERSONAL LEGAND which is leading him to his treasure. Along his journey he meets some special people that help him to stay strong in finding his treasure. These people are: the gypsy women, the king, the thief, the englishman, and The Alchemist. The Alchemist and Santiago travel through the desert together to get to the Egypt Pyramids where the boys treasure is. Along the way the Alchemist teaches the boy many things with hardly any words spoken just actions. The boy learned how to listen to his heart.. and when I say that I mean REALLY LISTEN to his heart by connecting with it and becoming familiar with it. He knew that his heart was scared for him to keep getting closer to his treasure and the Alchemist taught him that the heart tends to do that. The heart will become frightened when you push forward toward your personal Legend because it's scared of failure and feels as if worthless or that it doesn't deserve to have such a great thing. I think that this is so true and will often happen to many people where they feel like they aren't worth enough and they don't move forward because they are to scared of failure. I was starting to have little thoughts like this such as feeling selfish and thinking that I shouldn't be able to have this experience if some of the people I know aren't able to. We need to push these thoughts away and keep moving forward to our personal legend that God has sent us here for. We need to become connect with our own hearts and know when it is scared, when it beats fast and for what reasons and when it loves.
After he was able to know his own heart he felt that he knew the Language of the Universe. I learned about a new word in this book that has a powerful meaning to it and the word is Maktub;  an alchemist term (arabic word) which literally means it is written. From mystical point of view, it points to the fact that whatever happens is already known to the One. It signifies that Destiny exists. It points finger to the fact that everything is already known to God.
I know that this is true and that God does have our plan and our personal legend written out for each and every single one of us. He knows. Because He wrote it.
I am seriously so thankful for this book and for everything thing that it has taught me. I'm looking forward to reading it again. and again. and again. and again. I've left out so many things that I learned from this little yet SO powerful book. But if I were to keep writing I would probably most definitely go on ALL night! It's been an absolutely great day today!

P.s. Read the Alchemist :)
